Kate Walsh has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Brigham and Women’s/Faulkner Hospitals (BW/F). Her first day will be November 15. Walsh comes to BW/F from Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, where she served as chief operating officer. She began her career as a shift supervisor in the Emergency Department at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in the Bronx. Walsh then moved on to New York’s Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Saint Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and ultimately the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, where she developed a strong background in finance. From there, Walsh came to Boston and joined the staff of MGH to eventually become senior vice president of Medical Services and the MGH Cancer Center. “Kate will be a valuable addition to our talented executive leadership team,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb. “She brings with her a rich background and important voice to help us build on our clinical and research strategic goals.” “My vision of BW/F calls for recruiting the very best to join our already talented team. Kate will add her skills to keep us poised as a world leader in the highest quality of patient care, research and education,” added Gottlieb.
